WEATHERING THE STORMS OF LIFE TOGETHER!
Picture
Freedom for Fighters is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, inspired by the life and legacy of Jason Robert Barney, and dedicated to serving those who carry the invisible wounds of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and depression.
To those who are struggling, please know that you are deeply valued, honored, and cared for. You are not alone in your suffering. There are compassionate individuals and organizations ready to help, and we are committed to walking alongside you to connect you with the support and resources you deserve.
We hope you find encouragement, understanding, and a sense of peace within these pages.
With care and gratitude,
~ The Barney Family

It is not about racing to the finish—it is about finishing the race.
We are weathering the storm with you.

The Freedom for Fighters 5K Walk/Run is proudly presented in Mountain Home, Idaho, in honor of those who are crushed in spirit—especially individuals carrying the invisible wounds of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and depression. This event is hosted by the Jason Barney Family in partnership with the City of Mountain Home.
What makes the Freedom for Fighters Walk/Run unique is its symbolic, experiential design. Participants will have the opportunity to begin the race carrying a backpack filled with donated canned goods, representing the heavy emotional, mental, and spiritual burdens often carried by those battling PTSD and other hidden struggles. Participants are encouraged to bring a new backpack and canned goods, each marked with messages of encouragement and hope.
Throughout the course, designated checkpoints will allow participants to gradually unload portions of this weight—one checkpoint at a time. By the final quarter mile, all participants will be completely unburdened, allowing them to walk, run, or sprint to the finish line free from weight. Every participant will be celebrated at the finish line, as this event honors perseverance, healing, and endurance—not speed.
The Barney Family’s mission is to bring freedom to those fighting unseen battles and to end silent suffering. We want those who feel crushed in spirit to know they are never alone. Proceeds from this event will support charitable organizations serving veterans, first responders, abuse survivors, and—ultimately—the future construction of a healing ranch.
Yes, a healing ranch.
We believe in a greater vision—one that includes a place dedicated to holistic restoration of the heart, mind, and soul for those who are weary and burdened. More details will be shared as this vision continues to unfold.

This race represents the freedom found in laying down heavy baggage and releasing the pain the world places upon us. As a family and as a community, we believe this is a meaningful way to give back and to remind every fighter that they are loved, honored, and never alone.
Please note:
A limited number of backpacks and canned goods will be available at the starting line for participants who are unable to bring their own.
All backpack and food donations will be distributed to local charitable organizations.

May we continue to unite in faith and purpose as we pursue freedom for those who are crushed in spirit.
We look forward to lives being transformed in 2026 and for many years to come.

With gratitude,
The Barney Family
